フォスター＋パートナーズ｜フューチャー・プルーフ展が、ルーマニアのヤシ文化宮殿で開幕しました。5月3日（*2026年）まで開催される模型と写真の展示は、1970年代以降にその活動を形づくってきたアイデアをたどりながら、未来に向けた設計に対する同事務所の長年のアプローチを紹介します。
フォスター＋パートナーズのスタジオ責任者、ステファン・ベーリング（Stefan Behling）は次のように述べました。「本展で私たちが探求しているテーマは、私たちのデザイン理念を支える中核的な価値観を反映しています。すなわち、過去から学び未来の課題を受け入れること、人と場所のつながりを強化すること、そして性能向上のためにイノベーションを推進することです。私たちの都市の持続可能な未来への投資は、常に私たちの仕事の進め方に不可欠なものでした」

本展は複数のテーマで構成されています。すなわち、「フューチャー・パスト」は過去の研究に根ざした設計に焦点を当て、「フューチャー・プレイス」は公共のプレイスメイキングを探求し、「フューチャー・パフォーマンス」は構造システム、環境設備、外装の性能の関係性の理解を目指し、そして「スペース・アーキテクチャー」は地球外居住の夢と地上における現実的な影響を融合させるプロジェクトを探求します。同事務所がルーマニアで進行中のプロジェクトも展示されています。ワークプレイス、住宅、インフラ、さらには地球外居住を含むこれらのプロジェクトの選定は、適応性・柔軟性・責任ある設計への継続的な取り組みを示しています。

本展は、不動産開発会社IULIUSの取り組みであるIULIUS Foundationによって支えられています。フォスター＋パートナーズは現在、IULIUSのためにルーマニアで複数のプロジェクトに取り組んでおり、その中には歴史的なヤシ文化宮殿のすぐ近くに位置するパラス・ヤシの複合開発の再構想も含まれています。このプロジェクトは、宮殿とパラス公園の関係性を強化し、通り抜けやすさと市中心部への接続を高めるとともに、活気ある新たなショッピング体験を創出し、多様な新しい公共空間やアメニティによって公園を拡張します。それは、パラス・ヤシの複合開発を再構想し、建物を周辺環境と再び結びつけ、来訪者に世界水準のリテール体験を創出します。
同事務所はまた、ルーマニアのドブロゲア歴史地域にある港湾都市コンスタンツァの中心部に位置する38ヘクタールの敷地のヴィジョン・マスタープランにも取り組んでいます。この設計は、かつての工業用地を変貌させ、文化・教育施設、小売、エンターテインメント、スポーツおよびレジャー施設、さらに緑豊かな公共公園や植物園を備えた活気ある「都市の中の都市」へと転換します。

Foster + Partners | Future Proof has opened at the Palace of Culture in Iasi, Romania. Running until 3 May, the exhibition of models and photographs presents the practice’s longstanding approach to designing for the future, tracing ideas that have shaped its work since the 1970s.
Stefan Behling, Head of Studio, Foster + Partners, said: “The themes that we explore in this exhibition reflect the core values underpinning our design ethos: learning from the past to embrace the challenges of the future, strengthening connections between people and places, and driving forward innovation to enhance performance. An investment in the sustainable future of our cities has always been integral to the way that we work.”
Maximilian Zielinski, Senior Partner, Foster + Partners, added: “This is an exciting opportunity to present over five decades of the practice’s work to the people of Iasi – inside an incredible building that is the centrepiece of our new masterplan. The exhibition sheds light on our approach, which has always been defined by a future-facing commitment to innovation and responsible design.”
The exhibition is organised around several topics: ‘Future Past,’ focusing on designs that are rooted in a study of the past; ‘Future Place,’ exploring public placemaking; ‘Future Performance,’ which looks to understand the relationship between the performance of systems of structure, environmental services, and external cladding; and ‘Space Architecture,’ exploring projects that blend the dreams of extraterrestrial habitats with real-world impact on earth. The practice’s ongoing projects in Romania are also on display. The selection of projects – including workplaces, homes, infrastructure, and even off-earth habitats – present an ongoing commitment to adaptable, flexible, and responsible design.
Some projects look outward, imagining new forms of settlement in extreme conditions. Others focus on existing urban centres, proposing ways to extend the life of buildings and support evolving patterns of use. Collectively, the works on display demonstrate an approach to design grounded in practicality, environmental awareness and continual learning. They reflect a belief that designing for the future requires thoughtful innovation and a desire to improve the quality of life for the people who use these spaces.
The exhibition is powered by IULIUS Foundation, an initiative of the real estate developer IULIUS. Foster + Partners is currently working on several projects in Romania for IULIUS, including the reimagining of the Palas Iasi mixed-use development, located in the immediate vicinity of the historic Palace of Culture. The project strengthens the relationship between the palace and the Palas park, enhancing permeability and connections to the city centre, while creating vibrant new shopping experiences and extending the park with a variety of new public spaces and amenities. It reimagines the Palas Iasi mixed-use development, reconnecting the buildings with their surroundings and creating a world-class retail experience for visitors.
The practice is also working on a vision masterplan for a 38-hectare site at the heart of Constanta, a port city in the Dobrogea historical region of Romania. The design transforms the previously industrial site, turning it into a thriving ‘city within a city,’ with cultural and educational buildings, retail, entertainment, sports and leisure facilities, as well as verdant public parks and botanical gardens.
